Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

We hope the information below answers most of your questions, but feel free to reach out if you have any specifics!

Q: Do I need to have a tent on my vehicle to attend?
A: Not at all! Overlanding is all about the adventure, not what you sleep in. Whether you have a ground tent, a rooftop tent, a trailer, a hammock, or just want to sleep under the stars, you’re all set!

Q: What time should I show up?
A: You’ll receive an information package via email about 3 days before the event with all the details. You can arrive at the Compound anytime after 2pm on Friday, July 19, 2024, and we’ll be there to greet you!

Q: What does my rig need for the self-guided trail routes?
A: For the self-guided trail routes, go with at least one other vehicle, have off-road driving experience, and a rig with AT tires. Ensure your group has radios (FRS and/or CB), recovery gear and the knowledge to use it, navigation tools like GAIA or Garmin, and a saw for clearing fallen trees.

Q: Does my ticket include food?
A: No, this is a community campout where everyone is self-sufficient. We invite groups to have a communal meal on Saturday—just make sure to have a little extra for those attracted by the delicious smells!

Q: What should I pack?
A: Check the weather forecast and pack accordingly, including rain gear. It’s bug season, so bring spray and bug nets. Pack as if you’re headed into the woods for the weekend. We’ll provide firewood, so please leave your firewood at home.

Q: Can we have our own fires?
A: Yes, you can have a fire at your site, but it must be contained in a raised fire bowl, not on the ground. We’ll have firepits throughout the camping areas, and each community hub will have its own firepit. Firewood will be provided and refreshed throughout the weekend.

Q: Can I bring alcohol?
A: Yes, but please ensure all drinkers are of legal age. Keep alcohol consumption to your campsite or a communal firepit. Remember to drink responsibly and respect the code of conduct.

Q: I’m a smoker, can I smoke onsite?
A: Yes, but please be considerate and only smoke in areas where it won’t bother others. Dispose of cigarette butts in firepits or trash after field stripping them.

Q: Is the campout pet-friendly?
A: Absolutely! Please keep pets on a leash no longer than 30 feet. If your pet isn’t well-socialized with large crowds or other animals, it’s best to leave them at home to avoid stress for everyone.

Q: I love playing guitar around campfires, can I bring mine?
A: Absolutely! Music is a wonderful part of the experience, but please put instruments away after 11pm.

Q: Are bathrooms/showers available onsite?
A: We have porta-potties onsite, but no showers. Other attendees might share their hygiene solutions if you ask!

Q: Can I use a generator?
A: Solar generators are fine, but gas generators are not permitted except by Waypoint staff and vendors.

Q: Is there running water at the compound?
A: No, please bring enough water for your needs.

Q: Is shore power available?
A: No, there is no power available onsite.
